The Draper double houses were built more than a century ago, and many owners have since covered worn wood floors with wall-to-wall carpet, especially on the stairs and in upstairs bedrooms. Carpeted stairs in a duplex are narrow and get constant use, so the nose of each step turns gray long before the bedrooms do. We clean each tread and riser by hand with our portable tools, at $5 per step.
